decorative versus functional ceramics by Courtenay Mavity

decorative versus functional ceramics by Courtenay Mavity
Many of my items are purchased in studios and sold to me by the potter who made them, sometimes in Antwerp or directly online through curated ceramics. They are displayed but taken down at dinner.
.
I like statement salad bowls that don’t fit with the plain white service that was purchased when I set up home. I feel I am living how I like when I put the bowl down on my dining table.
.
Of course, there is always a thrill in owning a piece that nobody else has. My food looks better for it and my guests always love that. When they leave the ceramic stays and It is soothing knowing it will be used again.
.
Decorative ceramics are a sheer joy for a humble collector and fit the current mood when people can welcome guests as they like. I feel freer when I set down a plate at my table like this.
.
Decorative ceramics are not only beautiful but engages my guests, tells them something about me and brings my table to life. The feeling of effortless luxury comes naturally when you have the chance to use ceramics this way.
